Touch Kiosk with Integrated RFID Technology Introduced by SeePoint
Redondo Beach, California Thursday, January 06, 2005 SeePoint Technology, a leading provider of touch screen kiosks and self-service systems recently unveiled the newest addition to its highly configurable and flexible product line. SeePoint kiosks are now available with the exciting new technology known as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). A radio-enabled reader may be securely and seamlessly integrated into any of SeePoint’s slim profile, small footprint touch screen kiosk systems. The kiosk’s reader detects any item with a RFID tag or label, including proximity cards, payment cards and adhesive tags.
RFID is an automated identification and data collection technology which is already revolutionizing a variety of industries from retail to manufacturing to healthcare. The RFID tag is an extension of the commonly used bar code label with far more intelligence. The advantage of these more intelligent RFID systems is that, unlike barcode tracking systems, a RFID system can read the information on a tag without requiring line of sight or a particular orientation, offering a higher potential for automation. RFID enables multiple tags to be read rapidly and simultaneously and increases handling efficiency as well as accuracy and timeliness of data capture. This advancement on barcode scanning greatly simplifies and improves self-service transactions.
GIS Information Systems, a leader in the library automation industry, recently showcased its Polaris® ExpressCheck™ library self-service station at the American Library Association’s 2005 Midwinter meeting. The ExpressCheck system incorporates RFID technology as well as barcode scanning to provide a range of self-services to library customers. The self-service stations were designed and manufactured for GIS by SeePoint Technology.
The Polaris ExpressCheck is one of the first self-service systems to use RFID in libraries. The introduction of RFID technology, with its superior inventory controls and security functions, is especially significant as libraries increasingly lend costly DVDs and audio CDs to patrons. The ExpressCheck self-service stations are already in use at the Fayetteville, Arkansas Public Library, the Brownsburg, Indiana Public Library and the Pierce County, Washington Library System.
