Jet Propulsion Lab Gives a “Thumbs Up” to New SeePoint M-Kiosk

Pasadena, California – Monday, August 28, 2006 – Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the world-renowned NASA research and development center, recently deployed SeePoint’s newest M-Kiosk to showcase PlanetQuest, currently one the nation’s most important programs in astronomy and astrophysics. JPL was SeePoint’s first customer to receive the M-Kiosk and agreed to put the kiosk system through its “beta test” paces. JPL tested the M-Kiosk extensively in preparing to demonstrate the PlanetQuest application and gave SeePoint’s newest high-power kiosk a “thumbs up” for performance and reliability.

The PlanetQuest application looks at JPL’s successful completion of eight seemingly impossible technology milestones to develop a space telescope so powerful it can detect and study Earthlike planets around nearby stars. The application demonstrates how JPL scientists and engineers use these technological breakthroughs, such as the ability to study an object the thickness of a nickel, viewed at the distance from the Earth to the Moon, in order survey the Milky Way Galaxy one thousand times more accurately than has ever been possible.

JPL selected the SeePoint M-Kiosk because the extremely video- and data-intensive PlanetQuest application required a computer kiosk with high processing power and graphical capabilities. The M-Kiosk maximizes video performance by using the system’s graphics and memory controller hub, taking advantage of its up to 1GB of high speed, on board RAM and 400 MHz front side bus. Additionally JPL liked the M-Kiosk’s combination of high processing power combined with lower power consumption, making the kiosk an ideal appliance for applications that require 24x7 uptime. JPL also liked the flexibility of the SeePoint M-Kiosk. With six high speed USB 2.0 ports, the M-Kiosk allows JPL to add devices and peripherals in the future as the PlanetQuest application requires.

No stranger to pushing the outer edges of technology, JPL’s testing and deployment of the M-Kiosk with its PlanetQuest application demonstrates that the M-Kiosk is an outstanding platform for any kiosk application.
