NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Adler Planetarium Digital Signage Kiosk takes museum visitors “Out of This World”

Chicago, IL – Thursday, October 01, 2009 – Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum seeks to inspire the next generation of explorers and scientists. They are a national leader in science education, hosting teachers and students from across the country. As a museum and educational facility, they continually seek methods of reaching greater audiences and educating more effectively. Adler found a great solution, with the Intersteller Boundary Explorer (IBEX) kiosk.

Adler recently installed a self-service touch screen kiosk with integrated digital signage systems to help educate museum visitors. The IBEX kiosk is located near a main theater and displays changeable content about a staged rocket systems. The kiosk helps communicate the purpose of the rocket artifact through text information, which displays continually on the large format LCD, and through interactive flash games, facilitated via touch screen. The combination of digital signage and interactive kiosks takes visitors on an “Out of This World” educational adventure.

Adler Planetarium selected SeePoint’s AD-VantagePoint system, a fully enclosed kiosk touch screen and large format LCD digital signage system. In addition, the industrial-grade unit contains no exposed ports, wires or cables- enabling the system to run 24x7x365 in high-traffic locations. Julian Jackson, Director of Experience Design for Adler Planetarium, elaborates on the durability and versatility of these systems, “The components are robust and the enclosure attractive and well hardened. We can see using the kiosks for other applications throughout the museum.”

The kiosk system is secured using pre-loaded kiosk software that prevents users from surfing unauthorized websites and prohibits access to the operating system. As a result, the system is able to run fully secure and simultaneously provide all of the functions of the IBEX applications. Those functions provide educational entertainment to hundreds of museum visitors daily. Embracing new technologies, Adler Planetarium makes learning interactive, engaging and entertaining.
