OBI Deploys Video Kiosks

Redondo Beach, CA – Monday, November 09, 2009 – CHOOSING THE PRIESTHOOD WITH THE AID OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY

Deciding to commit to the challenging life of a Roman Catholic Missionary is no small undertaking, but with a series of experiential documentary videos presented on well-placed kiosks, potential priests now have vital information at their hands to help them make the decision of their lives.

When young men considering a lifetime of service to the Catholic faith visit the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) retreat centers, they arrive with a multitude of questions. Now, thanks to a series of video kiosk installations at their facilities in three states, the Oblates can communicate their mission to interested young men with short documentaries featuring dynamic life-experiences of current priests and brothers.

Utilizing SeePoint Technology's VantagePoint Light kiosks bright, 17" internet-ready touch screen displays, which are placed in high-traffic areas at Oblate Retreat Centers and Shrines in Illinois, Massachusetts, and Texas young men can get a real glimpse into the work of missionary priests and brothers.

The videos that we present on the kiosks are testimonials and mini-documentaries showing Oblate Fathers and Brothers doing their good works across the globe," says Will Shaw, Director of Production and Marketing for Oblate Media. (OMI)

Technology is transforming the way young men consider the priesthood. Since the new generation receives much of their information on the internet and video, Shaw feels that it is vital for the Oblates to match their interests by modernizing their outreach. We are hoping to plant a seed - the idea that the priesthood may be their calling," says Shaw. Potential vocations (as candidates for priesthood are called) start thinking about serving the church at a young age. Many teens who visit our centers are in Catholic schools, and some of them are already kicking the idea of entering the priesthood around," he adds. The assumption is that these young people are interested in technology. We are trying to cast the bread out as far as we can."

Shaw says that OMI chose SeePoint Technologies on the strengths of their innovative hardware, cost-conscious pricing, and acclaimed customer service. The multi-unit discount was critical to our decision, as was ease of operation. I was thrilled to realize that the kiosks really were as simple to install as unpack, plug in, and play."

SeePoint's Jeff Goldstein says that the Redondo Beach, California-based kiosk company is proud to be associated with such an important humanitarian organization. "The Oblates assist people in desperate need all over the world." he says. "Our platform is designed so that the content of the Missionary Oblates is presented in a way that potential priests passing by will instinctively want to interact with the kiosk. The screen is bright and crisp, and the Vantage Point Light model is built with a snappy looking, ruggedized steel frame that takes up a very small footprint. It's perfect for installations like visitors centers and other high traffic areas where you want to catch peoples attention with high visibility, but where you also need a machine that is east to operate, reliable, and self-contained."

Shaw can foresee the partnership with SeePoint expanding to include global outreach, with even greater effects in underdeveloped countries where Oblate Missionaries operate. Somewhere in Zambia, this could almost be a miracle machine!" says Shaw. People out in the bush don't have much in the way of modernity, so you could imagine that a SeePoint kiosk with videos playing could be quite an incredible attention getter."
